Elena was sitting in her desk doing paper work…not exactly one of her most exciting things to be done on her shift but hey being a cop wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. The hours were long, pay was short and your life was in constant danger. It fit in perfectly well when Elena went out at night as Batwoman, almost to the point where she had no social life in between. Though to be perfectly honest that was the last thing she needed especially with her face all over the news now a days. Bruce Wayne’s long lost secret has surfaced. If Elena knew this would happen she would never have changed her name from Vale to Wayne. Her mother got her fair share of the publicity too but after her career choices she was all too used to the cameras.
“Hey Elena you hungry Terry is going out for lunch” Jim one of Elena’s co-workers said. He was one of the men in Elena’s squad and always seemed to look out for the red head mostly because he was the closest to her age and they were both single though he never tried anything as of late.
“No thanks I have a lot of work to do” Elena said not even looking up from her computer. She was the loner as most of her team mates would describe her, Elena was always absorbed in her work and rarely took days off. Vicki swore she would work herself to death and Elena would always respond that it wouldn’t be a horrible way to go. She didn’t need to look up to know that Jim had left but no sooner had she finished the second paragraph of her report did Jim return saying that her brother was here to see her.
Brother? Elena didn’t have a brother, she didn’t really consider Bruce Wayne to be her father though she was aware of his adopted sons and biological child thanks to Barbara. Walking out of her cubicle and towards the receipton area of Gotham Police Station she saw a familiar face. It was on almost every business magazine in Gotham, Tim Drake new CEO of Wayne Enterprises.
“Drake” Elena said curtly she didn’t really want any surprises today.

Tim had walked into GCPD wearing a black brioni jacket with a red button up. People had watched him as he walked in, he smiled. He didn't like being stared at but he can take it in stride; Dick did teach him a few things.
He had walked up to the main desk and the woman behind the desk was looking at the monitor. "Excuse me, I need to speak with an officer please." He said in his smooth voice he had perfected.
"Name."
"Elena Wayne." The officer had looked up and saw Tim smirking. She had stopped motionless.
"Uhmmm...Officer Elena Wayne?"
"Elena?" Tim turned around and saw an officer behind him.
"Yes, you know her?" The officer nodded. "Well if you could tell her that someone wants to see her, that'd be much appreciated."
"and what is this regarding?"
"Just say her brother needs to see her." The officer looked confused but went off. Soon after Elena had come up with a cold reception. "Hello Elena, it's great to see you too. Nice weather we're having."

“Hello Elena, it's great to see you too. Nice weather we're having." Elena rolled her eyes at Tim’s comment. Sure she never met Tim and was probably judging him prematurely but to bother her at work wasn’t a good way to get her attention.
“Ashley, Jim I’ll go out for lunch after all” Elena said motioning for Tim to follow her out the door and into the streets of Gotham. She was still in her cop uniform but Elena didn’t really care she didn’t look to horrid and her red hair was pulled into a bun under her hat. Once she was out the door and she saw that the weather was good she removed her hat and let her hair loose just as a way to relax herself.
Turning around to talk to Tim she had a slight scowl on her face she wasn’t in the mood for random visits, she hated surprises and for some reason Wayne’s children just loved doing that to her. “Look Tim I don’t care who you are or what you do for a living, if you need to talk to me contact me through Babs or the old fashioned way, I don’t need you guys coming to me during my normal hours” Elena snapped her words were filled with double meaning that Tim or someone who knew of their secret identities would obviously get. Though Elena was worried that if Tim was coming to visit her would this open some sort of flood gate to the rest of the Batman Family coming to see her. Coming to see Elena during her time as Batwoman was one thing coming to see her when was Elena Wayne wasn’t the type of attention she needed. “And what do you want anyways? Elena asked in a exasperated tone

Tim smirked as she told her fellow officers that she would take her lunch. He then tapped the desk with the woman still staring at Tim. "Ciao bella." He said with a smirk, okay a little too much like Dick right there, he thought as he followed Elena. He had listened to her and Tim gave her a little bit of credit; she was Bruce's daughter.
"Heck if you get upset during a regular visit I'd hate to see you during your birthday." Tim said. That was in bad taste, he hadn't seen Elena unti she was grown and around that time Batwoman was hitting the scene as well.
"Yes I'm well aware of the ways to contact you Elena, but Babs was busy and I didn't feel like waiting for your shift to end. You were gonna be on graveyard again." Tim stopped when she had, "Listen, I needed to see you, there's something we need to talk about."

Elena rolled her eyes at the thought of her birthdays, when she was younger she didn’t even really like them that much. The idea of having a lot of people there she had to pretend to like and the presents that were horrid was even worse. The only thing she really liked was the cake and how into it her mother was but that was it. Once Elena moved out on her own she didn’t celebrate birthdays as much, she would get a call from her mother, she would be forced to stay home and watch some movies due to her previous mentor commissioner Gordon then she would go out to get dinner with either a few friends or just do something alone. When she thought about that way she really did live a lonely life, though she didn’t mind it, if anything other people minded it more than others did.
When Tim’s voice changed a little to something he needed to talk she once again motioned him to follow her. They went a few blocks into a dinner it was always crowded but this way there was less of a chance of the two being over heard. Once they had been seated by a waitress and given their menus Elena figured this was a better time than ever to have a conversation. “Talk” Elena said taking a sip of the soda she ordered when the Waitress came back to take their orders and deliver their drinks.

Tim gave the girl points, she wasn't as unschooled as her talks with Babs led her to believe, but of course Babs trained her herself. He never questioned Babs, she had been the one that had been there back when Bruce was reluctant to even let Dick be part of the team.
But he had also seen Elena's work. And taking a page from Bruce's book he had to make one thing clear. "Listen, I know how you feel about the family as a whole. To be honest I don't blame you." He didn't he knew just as wel;l in some cases better than, anyone what this family can do to anyone. "And I know Babs gave you her blessing but I had to do this."
He took a deep sigh and looked at her before continuing, She looked so much like her mother; beautiful and an energy that you couldn't do anything but feel, but she also had his eyes. The eyes of his mentor and father and he realized that with those eyes he had no choice but to do this.
"...Are you sure you want to do this Elena?"

Elena was about to say how she didn’t need to hear the Bruce Wayne speech when Tim asked her a question that no one else had ever asked her before. Well sure Babs had asked her but she never really asked her the same way that Tim was asking her. She gave him a firm nod in response sighing as if revealing a secret; she was going out on a limb her she wasn’t usually a touchy feely sort of person.
“More than anything else in my life Tim…once I’m out there, everything becomes so much stronger…I feel stronger I feel like the entire time Elena Va-…Elena Wayne was the mask” Elena admitted, she felt that way as Batwoman she felt so much stronger so much like she was living life for the first time.
“But I’m not going completely off feelings, I know that not everyone is meant for this life, that people die doing what I do. So once I’m positive that Gotham is safe, that the city doesn’t need me to dress up each day I plan on putting that life behind me” Elena admitted that last part a little remorsefully. She wasn’t planning on that day being any time soon but she doubted she could be Batwoman forever. Eventually death would reach her whether in battle or as Elena or even when she succumbed to old age but till that day came she would stay Batwoman.

Tim nodded solemnly listening to his...sister. She had sounded so resolute and he understood what she spoke of. It was true in many cases of heroes that when the mask comes on they are a new person, a stronger person, someone who could make a difference. Bruce was the first to have that fact known and at times it was worried that one mask was taking over for both sides. It had been in the back of Tims mind for many a year when he thought about Bruce.
"What you feel is very common Elena." Tim began sipping from his water, "The problem is many people fall victim to the mask they wear." He shook his head, "I'm glad it wasn't by anyone in the family...well Dick was a different story." He remembered when Dick went through his Ravager phase. Almost lost him.
"I don't want that to happen to you which is why I'm going to say this." He sat straight looking his blue eyes into hers. "If you're going to do this. You're going to do this my way. You will continue to train and work with Barbara, and anything else you have done so far. But you will abide by my terms while doing so as well. Meaning if you are needed somewhere by me you will show up..." He didn't like the way he was speaking but he knew he had to say this. It was for her own good.

Elena raised an eyebrow at Tim’s offer or more how he was stating his terms, she was aware of how the Birds of Prey was a part of the Batman family. Though Elena was member of the team she herself didn’t like to be associated with Bruce Wayne. So she didn’t consider her a part of the Batman family just a vigilante who happened to work in the same city. Though she was Batwoman she didn’t remember getting much help from Batman growing up so could she really be considered a member of the family.
“ What exactly does this mean? I’m not interested in becoming a part of your little family photo, I’m doing fine with Barbara and the rest of the team I don’t think further help will be necessary. I maybe new at this but I’m a fast learner” Elena promised her tone becoming more defensive, she didn’t have her feelings hurt but she didn’t exactly like the idea of being treated like a complete newbie. How was she suppose to learn anything if everyone just made her sit back and do nothing?

"Calm down Elena." Tim said calmly still looking the woman in her eyes. "I am by no means trying to say you'll be out of the game or taking a side-line for anyone else. But You need to understand one thing. This isn't Barbara's town this town belongs to Batman, and until otherwise it's Red Robin's." Tim was straight forward there was no room for negotiation for him on this one.
He wasn't trying to start something with Elena, far from it but there are rules for people who fight the good fight and those rules are what's kept him alive. "Listen, I'm not telling you you take orders from me...not directly anyway. But with certain things that have happened I have no choice but to reach, If...when I need you." Tim began, "You will show up, I'll only call on you when I need it. You and Barb can continue what you do she knows the rules better than anyone."
Timm stared at her for a minute. "You are his daughter..." He said sipping his water once again.

“Please compared to you and the others I’m nothing to him” Elena said back a bit unemotional to her ‘brother’. Though this was the truth, Bruce Wayne hadn’t been in her life in the slightest ways. Though Vicki never exactly brought him up, Elena had a feeling the issues surrounding her father was a very touchy thing for her. Deciding not to dwell on this she moved her mind back to the business at hand, Tim and his little offer.
She considered it for a moment, it didn’t seem that bad of a deal though she would be a part of the Batman family and answering his call if he ever needed her. Though chances are that Elena would run into her family on patrol whether she was officially a part of the team or not. Then of course Babs would be there with her every step of the way, so Elena wasn’t on completely unfamiliar territory. “I guess working with you won’t completely kill me or….just not anytime soon it won’t hopefully” Elena said with a shrug though she was down playing this decision. She wasn’t exactly sure what to think but she knew she would have a lot to learn from Tim that she could use especially since he fought with her father.
